GESCHÄFTSLUFTFAHRT - EIN KLEINER, ABER WICHTIGER FAKTOR IM TRANSPORTWESEN
Wenn es um die europäische Politik und Strategie zur CO2-Reduktion geht, ist die
Energie jener Bereich, der von Tag zu Tag mehr Beachtung findet. In letzter Zeit wird die Geschäftsluftfahrt von verschiedenen Medien heftig und meist unsachlich kritisiert. Dabei wird der Betrieb von Geschäftsflugzeugen in Zukunft immer wieder in Frage gestellt. In jüngeren Medienberichten wird die gesamte Branche pauschal als unnötiger Luxus diskreditiert. Die Bedeutung der Geschäftsluftfahrt und ihre Anstrengungen und Erfolge in Hinblick auf Nachhaltigkeit werden dabei keines Wortes gewürdigt.
DIE WELTWEITEN CO2-EMISSIONEN DER GESCHÄFTSLUFTFAHRT SIND SEHR GERING
Da die Austrian Business Aviation Association die Interessen der Geschäftsluftfahrt in Österreich vertritt, fühlen wir uns verpflichtet, die relevanten Daten und Fakten korrekt darzustellen und Pauschalverurteilungen in den Medien zu widerlegen. Wie gemeinhin bekannt, verursacht der gesamte Verkehrssektor 13 % der weltweiten CO2-Emissionen. Die kommerzielle Luftfahrt trägt davon etwa 2 % bei. Die Geschäftsluftfahrt ist lediglich für 0,04 % der weltweiten CO2-Emissionen verantwortlich. (*)
DIE ERFOLGSBILANZ DER GESCHÄFTSLUFTFAHRT
Laut dem GAMA-Bericht (**) hat die Geschäftsluftfahrt im wesentlichen Umfang zur ständigen Verbesserung der Treibstoffeffizienz von Luftfahrzeugen beigetragen. Diese sind in den letzten 40 Jahren um 40 % effizienter geworden. Das Engagement der Geschäftsluftfahrt entspricht jenem der Fluglinien. Der Erfolgsfaktor für Effizienzverbesserung sind bekanntlich die Modernisierung der Infrastruktur und des Betriebes von Luftfahrzeugen sowie die Entwicklung von alternativen Treibstoffen.
Gemeinsam mit den Flugzeugherstellern ist die Geschäftsluftfahrt fest entschlossen, diesen Weg fortzusetzen: Ein Geschäftsflugzeug, das im Jahr 2050 gebaut wird, wird 45 % treibstoffeffizienter sein als eines aus dem Jahr 2005. Moderne Navigationssysteme, in Verbindung mit den neuesten Technologien in der Flugzeug- bzw. Triebwerksherstellung und optimale Betriebsverfahren sorgen für eine immer bessere Treibstoffeffizienz und geringere Treibhausgasemissionen (**).
KONTINUIERLICHES ENGAGEMENT FÜR NACHHALTIGKEIT
Als unverzichtbarer Promotor von Innovation und Fortschritt freut sich die Branche darauf, die gesteckten Ziele gemeinsam mit der globalen Business Aviation-Community umzusetzen. Auf nationaler Ebene bedarf es definitiv einer Partnerschaft zwischen Industrie und Behörden sowie des guten Willens der Öffentlichkeit, den respektablen Beitrag, welchen die Geschäftsluftfahrt zu Standortsicherung, Wirtschaftswachstum und technologischem Fortschritt erbringt, zu akzeptieren.
Das Engagement der Geschäftsluftfahrt für die Umwelt zeigt sich in den beachtenswerten Verbesserungen der Umweltbilanz, die im letzten halben Jahrhundert erzielt wurden. Gemeinsam mit den Flugzeugherstellern und allen Stakeholdern der Branche sind wir der festen Überzeugung, dass die Umsetzung des ökologischen Handelns fortgesetzt werden muss.

BUSINESS AVIATION - A SMALL BUT IMPORTANT FACTOR IN TRANSPORTATION
When it comes to Europe’s CO2 reduction policy and strategy, energy is a highly attention driven area of interest, gaining more attention day by day. Lately business aviation has been attracting quite disruptive critique from various mass media, that are questioning the use, existence, and future development of business jets. The latest arguments attempt to dishonor the sustainability commitment of business aviation, by calling it an unnecessary luxury.
GLOBAL CO2 EMISSIONS FROM BUSINESS AVIATION ARE VERY LOW
As the Austrian Business Aviation Association represents the interests of business aviation in Austria, we feel obliged to present the relevant data and facts correctly to refute sweeping condemnations in the media. As is commonly known, the entire transport sector causes 13 % of global CO2 emissions. Commercial aviation contributes about 2% of this. Business aviation is responsible for only 0.04% of global CO2 emissions. (*)
BUSINESS AVIATION’S RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT
According to the GAMA report (**), business aviation has contributed to a significant extent to the continuous improvement of aircraft fuel efficiency. These have become 40% more efficient over the last 40 years. The commitment of business aviation matches that of the airlines. The success factor for efficiency improvement is known to be the modernization of aircraft infrastructure and operations, as well as the development of alternative fuels.
Together with the aircraft manufacturers, business aviation is determined to continue this path:
a business aircraft built in 2050 will be 45% more fuel efficient than one built in 2005. Modern navigation systems, combined with the latest technologies in aircraft/engine manufacturing and best operating practices, are delivering ever-improving fuel efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions (**).
CONTINIOUS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
As an indispensable promoter of innovation and progress, the industry is looking forward to implementing the set goals together with the global business aviation community. At the national level, there is a definite need for partnership between the industry and the authorities, as well as goodwill to accept the existence of business aviation as a respectful contributor to the economic growth, progress, and technology.
Business aviation's commitment to the environment is reflected in the remarkable environmental improvements that have been achieved over the past half century. Together with the aircraft manufacturers and all stakeholders in the industry, we strongly believe that the implementation of environmental action must be, and it will continue.
